Part II feels qualitative because many questions test interpretation rather than arithmetic. The exam still relies on technical foundations, but it often asks which model choice is more defensible, which control matters most, or which assumption breaks first under stress. That is quantitative knowledge expressed through judgment.

Suppose Northbridge Market Risk asks about a stressed VaR framework after a liquidity shock. You may not be asked to calculate a final number. Instead, you may need to identify why the lookback window, correlation structure, or funding assumption makes the result unreliable. That still requires technical depth. You cannot reason about a model you do not understand.

So the right response is not to stop practicing calculations. It is to treat calculations as the base layer and interpretation as the tested layer. When you finish a formula drill, ask what happens if volatility clusters, data is stale, or positions cannot be unwound cleanly. Many questions are basically asking whether you understand what a model output means for decision-making under pressure and uncertainty.
