Integrated Reporting (IR) combines financial and non-financial information into a single concise report showing how an organization creates value over short, medium, and long terms. The International Integrated Reporting Framework, maintained by the IFRS Foundation (post-merger with the IIRC), is principles-based rather than prescriptive and built around six capitals and seven content elements.

The six capitals are: Financial, Manufactured, Intellectual, Human, Social and Relationship, and Natural. An integrated report explains how the company uses and transforms these inputs to produce outputs and outcomes. For a fictional airline called Starrlane Aviation, manufactured capital includes the aircraft fleet, human capital includes pilots and engineers, natural capital includes fuel consumption and emissions, intellectual capital includes route network algorithms, social and relationship capital includes customer loyalty, and financial capital the balance sheet.

The seven content elements are: Organizational overview and external environment, Governance, Business model, Risks and opportunities, Strategy and resource allocation, Performance, and Outlook. A skilled integrated report weaves these into a coherent value-creation narrative rather than separate silos.

IR is complementary to GRI and ISSB rather than a substitute. It provides the connectivity layer showing how sustainability topics flow through the business model into financial outcomes. The IFRS Foundation is integrating IR principles into ISSB standards, making the connectivity discipline mainstream.
