Is a business write-off the same as getting reimbursed?
No. A deduction usually reduces taxable income. It is not the same as the government repaying the cost.
Fresh example:
- Maple Finch Media earns
72,000of business revenue. - It spends
4,000on documented software and contractor costs directly tied to client work. - It also spends
3,200on the owner's family vacation.
The business expenses may reduce taxable profit if they are ordinary, necessary, and substantiated. The family vacation does not become deductible just because the owner talks about networking.
A valid write-off needs a tax rule and evidence. A false deduction is still false even if it lowers the number on the software screen.
