Is Schweser enough or do I need the CFA Institute curriculum?
My budget is tight. Can I pass with Schweser Notes alone, or is the official curriculum essential?
For Level 1, Schweser plus the CFA Institute Learning Ecosystem (which is included free with your registration fee) is usually enough. The LES gives you the official end-of-chapter questions and the official mocks, which Schweser cannot fully replicate.
For Level 2 and Level 3, Schweser alone is risky. The questions test nuance that Schweser sometimes summarizes away. Most candidates who pass Level 2 read the curriculum directly for FRA, Equity Valuation, and Fixed Income, even if they use Schweser elsewhere.
The minimum I recommend for each level:
- Level 1: Schweser Notes + CFA Institute LES (free with registration) + at least two full mocks.
- Level 2: Schweser Notes + curriculum readings for FRA, Equity, Fixed Income + CFA Institute LES + three to four mocks.
- Level 3: Curriculum readings for all major topics + at least one mock provider with essay grading (Bill Campbell or CFA Institute).
The LES is the most underused free resource. It comes with your registration and contains the highest-quality questions for matching the actual exam style.
