A useful routine is a three-block cycle. First, do a timed set of mixed questions. Second, write the rule you missed in plain English with one small example. Third, redo a short simulation or mini-case that forces the rule into facts. For example, if a practice item mixes an equipment sale, depreciation, and entity-level planning, do not memorize one isolated formula. Ask what changed taxable income, basis, cash flow, and client advice.

The key is to stop measuring progress by pages completed. Measure it by whether you can identify the tax issue, choose the governing rule, apply it to new facts, and explain the planning effect.
