AcadiFi Certified Professional- Start with any fact that could make the auditor's judgment less neutral. Common objectivity threats include self-review, familiarity, personal financial interest, pressure from management, advocacy for a business outcome, and recent operational responsibility for the area under review.
- Suppose an internal auditor helped design a warehouse access-control workflow in March. In September, the same auditor is assigned to give assurance on whether the workflow is well designed and operating effectively. The threat is self-review: the auditor may be judging their own design decisions.
- A reasonable safeguard could be assigning another auditor to lead the assurance work, adding independent supervisory review, or narrowing the original auditor's role to factual background support. A weak answer would say the auditor can proceed normally because they know the process best. Knowledge helps efficiency, but it does not remove bias risk.
