The process has two components:
- **ICAAP (Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process)**: bank's own assessment of all material risks and the capital needed to support them, including forward-looking stress scenarios.
- **SREP (Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process)**: regulator's independent assessment. The supervisor may impose additional capital (Pillar 2 Requirement, P2R) and softer guidance (Pillar 2 Guidance, P2G).

Example: Wenstrom Community Bancshares has a concentrated CRE loan book (41% of loans). Pillar 1 risk weight treats each CRE loan individually.
