Why was so much withheld from my bonus check, and will I get it back later?
I got a raise and a one-time bonus, and the paycheck withholding jumped so much that it looked like I was taxed at an outrageous rate. I know bonuses can be handled differently from regular wages, but I am not clear on the difference between withholding and final tax liability.
